Bob, Thanks for your wuick response. Csn you tell me how to make sll the text the same font? I have selected it and chsnged the font many times and it just goes blank in the font box seconds after I try to change it. Accessing design center autodesk for mac.
Is there sonewhere it might be locked that I can unlock? I have even erased a paragraph and retyped it but it still didn’t fix the problem. It looks right but the app won’t say thst it is right. I went page after page, even paragraph after paragraph selecting type and it looks like the same type but cannot fix how the app is reading it. This is a big problem for publishing for me. What you are running into is a limit in the program. Those controls will go blank when more than ~32,600 characters are selected. However, that does not prevent selection of a different font or font size. The fact that the change is visible in the text provides but if you then click in a specific spot or select a smaller passage you'll get the further confirmation you seem to be looking for. Quite frankly, the underlying fact is that you are attempting to apply direct formatting to such a large body of text. Use of direct formatting can be problematic in a variety of ways & should be avoided for all but the most simplistic documents. If you want to make universal changes of this nature [especially in longer, more complex documents] it's best to modify the Styles applied in the document.

Bob, I think I see what you are saying about too large a text. I was having problems because the default setting was Cambria and I always want Times New Roman 12 pt (industry standard). I tried painting format like you suggested, but the problem is that it changes (eliminates) my bolt heading and my italics here and there in the document. What I have learned is to set the default text under Format>Font.
But this is not working on documents that I have already started. I guess I need another class. If I can send you my document (only a 30 page version) can you tell me if there is any way to fix what I have messed up? Also, can you give me a link to what I need to learn to set up one preset and to set it as default?

Setting most any Default only pertains to new documents generated from that point forward. It changes nothing about existing documents. Those have to be reformatted according to whatever change needs to be made. Just for the record:-) it wasn't I who suggested using the Format Painter.
